How to Add Video Popups to Your Blocs Website
Video can explain a product, introduce a service, or add energy to a portfolio. But a standard embedded player can make a page feel heavy, interrupt the layout, and load media before a visitor chooses to watch it.
Any Video is a Bric for Blocs that gives Mac, iPad, and iPhone website creators a cleaner way to present video. It opens YouTube, Vimeo, or custom video URLs in a polished popup modal—keeping the page focused until the visitor is ready to play.
Why Lazy Loading Video Makes Your Blocs Pages Faster
Any Video uses dynamic loading, meaning the video loads when a visitor requests it rather than when the page first opens. Compared with placing multiple video embeds directly on a page, this can help reduce initial load time and keep the browsing experience more responsive.
That matters for every site, but especially for mobile visitors. A fast first impression helps visitors reach the content that matters before video assets compete for attention.
Use YouTube, Vimeo, and Custom Videos in Blocs
Any Video supports:

- YouTube videos
- Vimeo videos
- Custom video URLs
- Vimeo Privacy Hash support
This makes it suitable for a wide range of sites, from product launches and tutorials to agency case studies, online courses, and creative portfolios.
You can also set a video start time, choose autoplay and mute behaviour where supported, add captions, and pause other videos when a new one begins.

Customize Your Video Popup to Match Your Blocs Design
Video should feel like part of the design, not an embedded afterthought. Any Video offers detailed controls to help the player blend into an existing Blocs website.
Customisation options include:
- Modal sizes, transitions, and effects
- Background colours and blur intensity
- Poster images and hover effects
- Border, radius, and poster styling
- Twelve built-in SVG play icons
- Custom SVG or HTML icons
- Adjustable icon positions
- Caption support for text and HTML
- Global swatch support
Whether your site uses a minimal editorial look, a bold portfolio style, or a polished business layout, you can shape the video trigger and popup to fit.
How to Install Any Video and Add It to Your Blocs Site
Ready to put Any Video to work? This quick walkthrough covers everything from installation to a fully customised video popup. Follow along, and by the end your visitors will be watching video the smart way.
Step 1 — Install the Any Video Bric
First, download Any Video from the Blocs Builder Store ↗. Once you have the Bric file:

- Open your Blocs project (Blocs).
- Go to Select Bloc → Column → (the + icon).
- Type Any Video
- Select the downloaded Any Video Bric file from your downloads folder.
- The Bric will appear in your Bric library, ready to drag onto any Bloc.
You only need to install the Bric once — it becomes available across all your Blocs projects after that.
Step 2 — Choose Your Video Platform
Drag the Any Video Bric onto your chosen Bloc area. In the Inspector panel, you'll see the video source options:

- YouTube — Paste a standard YouTube URL (e.g.
https://youtube.com/watch?v=...). You can also add a start time so the video jumps to a specific moment. - Vimeo — Paste a Vimeo video URL. If your video uses privacy hashing, toggle on Vimeo Privacy Hash and enter the hash value.
- Custom Video URL — Point to any direct video file URL (e.g. an
.mp4hosted on your server or CDN).
Pick the platform that matches where your video lives. You can also set autoplay and mute behaviour here — though keep in mind that mobile browsers often restrict autoplay unless the video starts muted.
Step 3 — Change the Cover (Poster) Image and Add an SVG Play Icon
This is where Any Video really shines. Instead of showing an empty video placeholder, you can display a polished poster image with a clickable play icon overlaid on top.

To set your cover image:
- In the Inspector, find the Poster Image section.
- Either drag an image directly into the well or click Choose to browse for a file.
- Use the Border, Radius, and Styling controls to frame the image to match your design.
- Adjust Hover Effects if you want the cover to react when a visitor moves their cursor over it.
To add an SVG play icon in the centre:
- Scroll to the Icon section in the Inspector.
- Browse the twelve built-in SVG play icons — pick one that suits your aesthetic (triangle, circle-outlined, rounded, minimalist, etc.).
- Use the Icon Position controls to centre it horizontally and vertically over the poster image.
- Want something unique? Switch to Custom SVG and paste your own SVG code, or choose Custom HTML for a fully bespoke icon.
💡 Tip: A bold poster image paired with a clean white play icon on a subtle semi-transparent background is a timeless combination. Use a poster frame captured from the video itself so visitors see a preview that matches what they'll watch.
Take five minutes to experiment with these settings — a well-chosen transition and a blurred background can make a simple video popup feel premium.
Make Your Blocs Video Popups Accessible and Privacy-Friendly
Any Video includes accessibility support and offers no-cookie tracking options for YouTube and Vimeo embeds. This gives site creators more control over how video is presented.
As with any third-party video platform, website owners remain responsible for their own privacy and GDPR compliance. Browser restrictions and platform settings can also affect features such as autoplay—particularly on mobile devices.
